A passion turned profession
Ever since I laid my hands on a computer, I discovered my fascination for technology and the limitless possibilities it offers. What started as a hobby building a website for Skylines Downunder (a car club I founded in 1999) quickly turned into a passion, leading me to pursue a career in web development. I have no formal qualification however quickly secured a role at TelecomNZ as a web editor, and then as a web developer. Fairly quickly I created the first online mobile store in NZ and won awards in the process. Since then, I have been honing my skills and staying up-to-date with the ever-evolving digital landscape.
Skills and Experience
My career from Telecom moved to the finance industry where I focused on business development and built software applications with web front ends. Then I moved on to Marketing Management with the Forlongs family in Hamilton, NZ. Of course while there rebuilt the website which had around 50,000 stock items updating live taking a feed from a bespoke stock system which used a flat file database. From there I spent nearly 2 years working for local web development firm NetValue until I got the call from a colleague to work in tertiary education focusing on youth development at NZMA under the New Education Group assisting sister colleges such as the YOOBEE School of Design. After 5 years I felt the need to move to our largest Māori education provider in New Zealand Te Wānanga o Aotearoa and I have worked there ever since. I onboarded as a Senior Marketing Specialist and am now the Subject Matter Expert for User Experience.
