Te Wānanga o Aotearoa is thrilled to announce the launch of our new website dedicated to the Mahuru Māori Challenge! As a tertiary education provider and passionate advocate for promoting te reo Māori, we are excited to provide this platform to support and inspire everyone in their journey with the Māori language.
This website is a result of my work in the digital marketing team, leveraging my web development skills to create a dedicated space for the Mahuru Māori Challenge. The challenge, initiated by Paraone Gloyne in 2014, encourages the use of te reo Māori throughout the month of Mahuru (September) as a way to broadcast and normalize the language in everyday interactions.
What is Mahuru Māori?
Mahuru Māori is an incredible opportunity for everyone to speak te reo Māori, regardless of your current proficiency level. The challenge is simple: use as much te reo Māori as you can during the month of Mahuru. Whether you’re greeting everyone in te reo, speaking it for an hour a day, or using it throughout the entire month, the goal is to integrate the language into your daily life.
How to Participate:
- Set Your Goals: Determine your realistic goals at the start of the month.
- Ways to Participate:
- Greeting everyone in te reo Māori
- Speaking only te reo for an hour a day
- Speaking te reo for 2 hours a day every day
- Speaking te reo for half the day every day
- Speaking te reo every day for the whole month
We understand that it may take a conscious effort to stick to your reo Māori goals, but remember, you are not alone in this challenge. Together, we can help normalize the use of te reo Māori within our communities. Kia kaha!
